GroupsThe Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service runs a number of different groups. The Jacaranda Project is a groupwork program for adults who have experienced sexual abuse in childhood. There will be two Jacaranda Groups run for women in 2010, one in February and one to begin in September or October, depending on demand. Each group runs for 10 weeks, and is held at Royal North Shore Hospital. For further information about the Jacaranda Groups, please call the Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service on 9926 7580.
The Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service also runs groups for women who have been sexually assaulted recently. There will be one Recent Sexual Assault Group run in 2010, to begin around June. For further information about this group, please call the Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service.
The Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service runs Court Preparation Seminars, usually a half-day seminar to provide information for victims of sexual assault who are giving evidence in court. The Court Preparation Seminars usually have a representative from the Police or Department of Public Prosecutions, and often a guest speaker who has given evidence in court shares their experience. There will be a Court Preparation Seminar run in the second half of 2010. Please call the Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service for further information.
Other groups may be run if there is demand in the community, and available staff at the Sexual Assault Service. At times the service has run groups for men, for people with disabilities, and for people who have experienced drug-facilitated sexual assault, for instance. Please call to register your interest in a particular group, and to discuss any questions about the groupwork program.
