What Is Sexual Assault?


Sexual assault is a general term used to cover a broad range of unwanted sexual behaviours. These may include:

  • Child sexual abuse
  • Adult rape
  • Indecent assault such as unwanted touching and acts of indecency.

Sexual assault is an act of violence and a CRIME. It does not matter if the offender is a stranger, family member, friend, acquaintance, work colleague, partner or ex-partner.

Who is Vulnerable to Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault can happen to anyone regardless of ability, gender, age, race, socioeconomic status and sexual orientation. Statistics show that most people are sexually assaulted by someone they know and trust.
